How we helped restaurants accept payments. Part 3

31 may 2020

  1. Lightning (UsaePay)
  2. AUX — Аудио вход (CardFlight)
  3. Bluetooth (UsaePay, Ingenico, SumUp)

Aptito Kiosk

This time we want to tell you about terminals that directly connect to mobile devices, in our case it was an iPad.

Generally, terminals have different options to connect to other equipment, we worked with the following:

  1. Lightning (UsaePay)
  2. AUX - Audio input (CardFlight)
  3. Bluetooth (UsaePay, Ingenico, SumUp)

Why did Aptito need to integrate with terminals of this type?

Aptito Kiosk
  1. With such terminals, it is more convenient for the waiter to approach the visitor at the table and make a payment. Why not a standard terminal from our previous articles?
  2. First of all, in the USA the standard for restaurant management systems is integration with payment terminals and the request with the amount of payment goes automatically to it. (In Russia, the amount is entered manually by the waiter).
  3. Secondly, wired terminals are more popular in the restaurant management system than wireless ones.

With the UsaePay terminal (which you see in the picture above), which is connected via Lightning, we had a rather curious problem, the terminal is simple enough, we inserted it into the iPad, draw the card and everything is ready, everything seems to be simple.

But for some reason some clients very often did not have transactions, the terminal simply did not react. We searched for the problem in the software for a long time, but it turned out that everything was much simpler.

This is what an iPad desk stand looks like, which was used at retail outlets for ease of use. That's where the problem was. We caught the stand with a thicker part in the area where the iPad was connected to the terminal, as a result, the terminal connector was not fully inserted into the port, worked with interruptions because of this and visitors could not make payment. The problem was solved by replacing the stand:)

So, before looking for software bugs, check if you are good with your hardware, because the problem can be so elementary that you will not even think that it is possible.
